Mountain Hut Complete

Here is the freshly painted hut. The whole project took around two and a half hours to finish - from here we can add bling or just set it on the table with a few mates and play.

Khadorian Mountain Hut

Khadorian Mountain Hut
It is amazing what a few scraps and a bit of cunning can do for some terrain. Foamboard, cardboard, corkboard and Balsa. For this project the more ramshackle the better. Walls should be cut 2” high and as long as you want the hut. As long as they match, you’re ok. I used foamboard for the walls and cork for the base. Once one end was cut I used that as a template for the other. I bevelled the cork board and started glueing with PVA. Just like a house of cards she goes together nicely. Once together I let the glue dry a little while I prepared the roof. The glue does not have to be completely dry to hold well enough for the next stage.

Using an old box , I cut the base for my roof (amazingly it already had a fold ready to go). This should overhang by a few mm. I used a small weight to hold the roof down - until it is tacky - good time to go and make a cup of tea.

Now for the doorway. I used a model to get the right proportions, then glue it on. Adding a window on one side makes breaks the hut up a bit and is easy. Again there was a mix of balsa and lengths were estimated (with a model nearby for comparison. Now to put the cladding up. I cut some Balsa into 2” strips. I cut the ends to match the roofline - and leave the gaps to show the roughness of the building. Same roughness goes for around the door and windows - it may look messy now but the gaps and un-evenness actually allows the dry brushing later on to pick up the edges nicely.

The roof comes next. I gave it a quick paint grey so I could see what I was covering. I cut the rough tiles approximately 1cm square. I make one edge particularly jagged to show the weathering on the edge of the tiles. Glue them from the bottom edge up, make sure you overlap the edges of the roof. Carry on over lapping the tiles towards the centre of the roofline but leave a gap at the roofline. The hut is ready for painting.

Allow 24 hours for the glue and filla to dry properly, then break out the paints and have some fun.

Cheers
Tom

So; I was listening to a Podcast the other day... Episode 3

So I am back with another couple of reviews. Let me know what you think.

Worlds End Radio

I have only just started listening to this podcast. It’s advertised as a Games Workshop Podcast and it largely still is. For now. Run by Luke and John, these guys provide a really well balanced, professional podcast that evenly discusses gaming. (Except 8th edition Warhammer which Luke hates with a passion) They have primarily been covering GW games, however both are also branching into new arenas namely Warmachine/Hordes, Malifeaux and Spartan Games’ various offerings (Seas of Blood, Firestorm Armada and Dystopian Wars). They have done reviews of all the above and are now discussing news and their experiences with these other game systems alongside their more traditional GW fare. For a general war gaming podcast, I would definitely give these guys a listen. You may not get conversation about specific combos or specific army lists, but they know games, and run a tight ship. 4/5

The Prime Generation

I used to listen to them. Then I didn’t. And now I do again. They have developed and become a bit more polished in the interim. A varied group of guys who seem to know their stuff, they have good discussions on tactics, how to prepare for tournaments, that sort of thing. My only qualifier is that they can sometimes go off on random tangents which can turn you off. However, they have matured since they started, and hopefully will continue to do so. They are a solid listen and I would recommend you give them a go. 3/5

Lost Hemisphere Radio

The casual Warmachine player’s podcast. These guys, Gdaybloke and Menothjohn, are laid back, relaxed and do their own thing. I get the impression that these guys play casually rather than seriously, don’t care whatsoever what the PP forumites say (and good on them!) and do not conform to the ‘normal’ views of models. Where everyone out there apparently hated the Allegiant (of the Order of the Fist) solo, Gdaybloke was running 4 in a list. A refreshing alternative view to the usual blather you see on the forums, and without any hype. They have some good, positive reviews on models and books, and generally do things at their own pace. I would recommend looking at their website too, as they have some really good blog articles, especially Capt Spud’s black hole terrain section. If you are looking for hard-as-nails combos & tactics, this isn’t for you, but if you want a really relaxed conversation with friends, it’s what you want. The score is lower than it should be only because Menothjohn’s quirks set my teeth on edge. But that’s not his fault. 3/5

Thanks for reading.

Hanging out for Nicon. Have you registered a team yet?

Wellington Shattered Grounds League

Thunder Cliff Peaks - Week 1

Given that this is supposed to be a community board I thought where better place for people to report on their local (or National) league escapades!

Well, there's bee a furious bit of gaming in some quarters over the last week - even with the Easter break getting in the way! Quite a few league points picked up with some people obviously wanting to take an easy start to the league (or be on holiday with the family... ;) ) The Easter Break has made it difficult to get a kick off event in - especially as it coincides with Natcon - so we decided to take the results of the Thresher tournament, run a few weeks ago, and use that to kick start a lot of the scores (this was emailed around before the event so there should be no surprises for those who read their email!) It's good to see one or two 50 point games played as well, the local Meta has been exclusively 35 point games since Mk2. The large number of new players that we've gathered over the year have now mostly expanded their collections past the 35 point mark and old the old Mk1 dogs have found their feet so the gradual slide is now towards 50points and the list building challenges that brings. Who knows, we may have a HardCore tournament before the year is out....

anyway, here are the results at the end of week one:

I'll be back in a week with an update on the Welly WarmaHordes action!

Cheers

Chris

Community and a Bonus at the end

So I'm back. Well I know you have missed me. Right that's out of the way I bet your wondering what the heck the title means or has to do with Warmachine and Hordes (W/H) well..........everything.

I have just spent 3 weeks away from home for work. While it was busy I wasn't with my family but I was lucky enough that I had part of the New Zealand W/H community to help me pass the time. I was stuck in Wellington and thanks to Chris O and the fantastic bunch of guys down there I was gifted the chance to join in with their community. Now W/H is a game and for that you need more than one player, of course you can paint and model but you need someone else if you want to get that fantastic model on the table and show off what you have done and what it can do.

That is what I mean by community, we have great bunches of players around the country who are more than willing to smash your models on a table anytime. Privateer Press have created a good system utilising volunteers to help promote community, Press Gangers. They can see that without one their whole.business would fall over. This website is also part of that community and gives anyone, and I mean anyone the chance to have their say about W/H, painting, battle reports, model musing and anything you can think of W/H related.

So where am I going with this ramble, ok, June 4 and 5 2011 is NICON being held at Fraser HighSchool in Hamilton. It is being hosted this year by the Hamilton Immortals NZ of which I am a member. I am running the W/H event and I wanted it to be a community building event so I made it for teams. This gets players to rely on each other, get together and plan, strategise, and just talk shop as much as possible before the event. Then when they get there the smack talk can begin and the battles commence. I am trying to make sure that anyone who is interested can play, I will help anyone who needs a team find one and make as many people as possible welcome into our community. When I was in Wellington I met 5 new people I had never met before playing W/H and even got a couple of games in too. It was a blast and that is what I intend for NICON this year.

I have been busy preparing for this baby for quite a while and I am sure you will have a great time I have a few little surprises in store and I am sourcing the loot as we speak. Just to show you here some of the terrain I have built so far.....

Now I have not finished yet I hope to have a lot more for yo guys to battle on by June.

In case you thought well I will just wait and see about this thing here is something to make you go better register now. For all the players who enter before 29th April 2011, you go in the draw to win this....

A brand new professionally painted, not by me, Ragman. I am sure he will be a great edition to any army that loves dead stuff. And he looks awesome too big thanks to Chris B from Auckland for all the effort. So to be in to win just register before the 29th of April 2011, its cheaper and you could win the Ragman. Just email me and I will make sure you get all the details you need sah474@xtra.co.nz or check out the website.

This post is getting long but I promised I would also stick up a battle report so it's your lucky day, I present Daniel's Dawn Lord Vyros Tier 4 vs Fiona the Black. I decided I would use a caster for this current league that I have never used before and I tell you what she was awesome. We played the League scenario King of the Hill. To win this you get a point in your turn if your caster is on the hill, first to three. Not really where I want Fiona to be. Always remember the scenario, I didn't......

My List

Fiona the Black +6
Vanguard 5
Mariner 8
Max Boomhowler 9
Max Kayazy Assassins 8
The Underboss 2
Eiryss, Mage Hunter 3
Orin Midwinter 2
Gorman Di Wulfe 2
Reinholdt 1

(Yes I know, I am one point short could have used that, you will see)

Daniel's List

Dawn Lord Vyros
Hydra
Hydra
Max Sentinels
Sentinel UA
Soulless Escort
Max Sentinels
Sentinel UA
Soulless Escort
Arcanist

(Yep its Teir 4, all sorts of shenanigans I just do not know about, but who cares)

Deployment

Vyros Deploys
Daniel won the roll and elected to go first, he bricked up in the middle of the board. not a surprise he wants to be shoving those Sentinels down my throat quick smart. Two units of Sentinel ranked followed up by the Jacks, Vyros in the middle.

Fiona Deploys
I chose to spread out Kayazy at the front to stall his Sentinels with their Def 16 in combat, I'll make him roll nines and laugh a lot. Followed up by Boomhowler. Fiona, the Mariner, the Vanguard, Orin and Reinholdt (the loader) group up to the right of the Kayazy. Eiryss goes to the right flank and Gorman to the left.

Round One

Vyros: as expected runs everyone flat tack across the board, Inviolable Resolve goes on the Sentinels at the front, +2 Arm, he loads up his Jacks. I hate this I will just keep my focus till next round Retribution rules, meh.

Fiona: Kayazy run up not into charge range but into run range so I can encourage him to engage me. Boom howler puts up super tough, 4+, and follows up in support. Fiona, runs the Mariner , and the Vanguard forward. Reinholdt runs up behind the Mariner to be the loader. Orin advances and chucks up null magic, I soooo love that ability. Fiona advances and casts a few of her great upkeeps. It is such a pleasure to play a 7 focus caster after so long with only 6. Roths Mercy goes on Boom Howler, no way he is getting sniped out of the unit, Nonokrion Brand onto the Mariner for you can't hide from me tricks, and Telgesh Mark onto Eiryss, cause who does not love a stealthed arc node that Def 16.

Round Two

Vyros: He charges the front rank of the Sentinels that can see some of the Kayazy to my left flank and runs those that can't see over the top of the hill. He gets into charge range on a couple of Kayazy, and rolls a 10 to kill one, bugger. The second unit runs in support crowding the hill, Vyros uses Birds Eye to charge onto the hill, and the Hydra's advance and take pot shots. The one on my left misses a Boomhowler, fell short, but he was just range finding for the other one who has a go at the Mariner and does 4 points of damage, just a scrape. Only Arm 17 is a bit scary on your only heavy, I know what Cryx feel like now...nah.

Fiona: I have to make my move now or I will be inundated with Sentinels next turn. I hatch a plan and go for it. I upkeep all my spells and give two to the Mariner keeping two on Fiona. Eiryss moves up to the right a bit more and disrupts the right hand Hydra, dropping his three focus, but he gets one back for getting shot, sucky. Gorman advances on the left and throws Black Oil on the other Hydra and misses, I was 6 inches away and deviated three inches so missed everything, oh well, bye Gorman. Or is it. The Kayazy uses their mini feat Kill Stroke and charge through the front line of Sentinels into the second line, making sure I get gang, its Mat 9 POW 12 charges into the Sentinels without Invioable Resolve, they dissolve. BoomHowler then gives his boys super tough and charge the front rank now that the Kayazy are out of the way, more of them fall to the ground, but I miss with a couple of attacks needing only 6's to hit. The Mariner and Reinholdt move forward and take a shot at the Arcanist in the rear, squishing him. Fiona advances camps her focus and feats. Now her feat is quite defensive but I am trying to be attacking with it. It means that all attacks made inside her control use one less attack dice and one less damage dice. You can see where this is going, his Mat 7 Sentinels are trying to hit Def 16 Kayazy with 1 dice, never going to happen. If he hits Boomhowler, with 5's or 6's then I will be tough half the time. It was such a great combo and Daniel was a little annoyed by it all. Here is how the field looked after the Kayazy went in.

and after Boomhowler had finished

The bugger was I had forgotten the scenario hadn't I, Vyros in his turn would score again and have two points I have none.

Round Three

Vyros: He did not have much of his army left, but all he needed to do was survive the next turn to take the win on scenario. He hugged his army around Vyros and camped his focus. He tried to swing with the Sentinels but killed 2 Boomhowler Trolls (never rely on tough), Fiona's feat just boned him.

Fiona : And I panicked, how could I kill Vyros now, cause if I don't he wins. Upkeep Nonokorian Brand, give two to the Mariner. I wanted to shoot him with Eiryss first to drop the focus but the bloody Hydra and Sentinels were in the way so here what I tried. Gorman went round the back and threw Black Oil, success only 1 inch deviation and the hydra and Vyros can't see. Reinholdt and Mariner move out and shoot at Vyros, doing 6 damage, yeah. Fiona casts Nonokorian Brand onto Eiryss. Eiryss moves into range and drops Vyros's focus, no more for you sir. The Kayazy cut a hole in the Sentinels and Boomhowler and three mates take pot shots, one hits and does about 7 or 8 damage, enough that I left him with only 4 boxes. But I am out of shots, knives, swords, magic etc nothing left to throw at him, bugger again, remember the scenario. (Bangs head on table, perhaps that will help, didn't.)

So I had lost.......

and two Boomhowler Trolls who were off regenerating and he had lost......

all of that but it does not matter if you didn't achieve your goal.

So it was a long post I hope you enjoyed it I had to put something up it has been so long.

See you at NICON......or else

Thresher 35point tournament 10th April

Hello All,

On sunday the 10th 14 fine and jolly Warmachine and Hordes players turned out to Cashmere Primary School to play a small friendly 3 round steamroller event. As with small events like this the results were tight and came down to control points in the end. The final table look like this:

chris P Legion of Everblight - Epic Warcaster, 1st Place
thomas Cygnar - Warcaster, 2nd Place
craig Retribution of Scyrah - Journeyman Warcaster, 3rd Place
chris R Cryx
sergio Skorne
jimmy Skorne
ric t Khador
chong Legion of Everblight
richard T Cygnar
ted Khador
iain Cryx
matt Circle Orboros
jay Cryx
che Retribution of Scyrah

It was great getting a real spread of factions with only Menoth, Minions and Trolls going unrepresented. It was awesome seeing some newer players mixing it up with well seasoned veterans and learning the hard way why you dont mess with Chris P's Saeryn of oh-my-god-not-Blightbringer-again!

The Artisan, or 'best painted' went to newcomer Matt's gorgeous Circle army which was richly deserved, although Thomas, Chris O and Jimmy do get honourable mentions.

Everyone clearly had a great time, as out of 14 players, there were 10 nominee's for the Exemplar, or Sportsmanship Award which went to Jimmy. For only the third time (ever), Sergio did not win this award, although nominated. Perhaps he is becoming a little more callous? He does play Skorne afterall, and that sort of nastiness has got to rub off, surely. But then again, Jimmy also plays Skorne. What is wrong with this picture?

All in all a fun laid back event that everyone enjoyed. I also have photos - yay! But not with me...
So I will get them up soon for your viewing pleasure.

Cheers

Ana Su.

So; I was listening to a Podcast the other day... Episode 2

So I am back with another couple of reviews

FOCUS AND FURY

These guys are crude, rude, opinionated have no shame or limits. They are also hilarious. If you are Intolerant of excessive profanity, explicit and very graphic commentary this is probably not the podcast for you. If you don’t mind this, it is well worth the listen. These are the guys that Matt Wilson (founder of PP) has apparently named his ‘Nemesis’. They call it how they see it, they run lemon contests (fan-fiction erotica about the characters from the Iron Kingdoms), they give detailed advice and generally let it all hang out. These are the people that coined the terms:

• Casey Fever – A gamer that changes faction/game every 5 minutes
• Skornegy – When a model/units abilities contradict each other – the opposite of synergy
• TB – Basically a ‘Loser of the Week’ voting session. All kinds of fun ensues when the hosts themselves get nominated

The main reason aside from the general hilarity, to listen to them is that these guys are really top tier and know what they are on about. A number of the hosts have won numerous major competitions in the USA like Gencon, Templecon etc so have the C.V. to back up the all the talk. When they finally get to the point, they can give really informative detail about combos, factions and models. While I disagree on many of their evaluations, their breadth of knowledge and experience cannot be ignored. My biggest gripe is their really erratic release schedule; I never know whether there is going to be another podcast or whether they are finished forever. It’s the only reason they are not my favourite. 5/5

GUTS'N'GEARS

They are super nice guys, but that’s the problem. They are too nice. They would never criticise anything PP does because everything PP does is apparently the best thing anyone has ever done! This of course is not true. They are effectively the unofficial podcast for the PP marketing program. If you want bland interviews and everyone playing nice, go ahead, but personally I prefer something with a few more teeth. 2/5

D6 GENERATION

Probably the most professionally run gaming podcast on the Web. This is a marathon 4 hours per episode smorgasbord of all things gaming. It’s a variety show with silliness, seriousness and really coherent planned out interviews. They are:

• Russ –The enthusiastic I-will-play-anything-except-Agricola founder of Dakka Dakka (Forums and Games Store)
• Raef – Lawyer who has some very odd takes on things (and loves Agricola)
• Craig – The down-to-earth centre of the podcast, making sense of Raef and tempering Russ’ raw enthusiasm

They don’t specifically play any one system, they play all kinds of miniatures games, board games, console and pc games, and anything goes really. They give very detailed reviews of games every episode, detail to the level of ‘this is how you play the game’, and so if you are looking at investing in a board game or whatever, check these guys out.
They provide news, general info and an insight into their gaming lives with different segments throughout the show. They produce really good podcast that is well thought out and well executed, worth a listen if you are ok spreading it out over several listening sessions. I only lower their rating a little because sometimes they do get bogged down in the details. 4/5

Hanging out for Nicon. Have you registered a team yet?

NICON Players Pack

Today we have the release of the final draft of the players pack for NICON.

I hope to see you all there so get your pre-reg in and gather your team.

Warmachine @ NICon 2011
4 & 5 June 2011

Now the players pack for this event is a little different from the usual Steam Roller event pack as this event is a Teams Event.

Teams consist of three players working together. Players will fight in Battles individually but combine their scores at the end of each round to determine placing. There will be no individual winner of this event instead a Team will be crowned as Champions and take home the goodies. These Teams are organised before the event and you enter as a Team.

Teams can be made up of any Faction; there is no requirement for all players to use the same Faction. Each player is required to bring ONE 35 point list. The one limit to list building is that you can not have more than one character across your Team's lists. This applies to Warcasters/Warlocks, Character Units (eg Black 13th, Withershadow Combine), unique and character Jacks/Warbeasts (eg Deathjack, Ol Rowdy), and character solo's (eg Gorman Di Wulfe, Bane Lord Tartarus). For example you can not have Gorman Di Wulfe in more than one players list across a Team. A Team can also not contain a Warcaster/Warlock in one list and their Epic version in another list. This all means a Team will consist of THREE  35 point lists commanded by three different Warcasters/Warlocks.

In a Team Event the three players of one Team fight it out against the three players from another Team; this is called a Match. Each Match is divided into three battles, fought one on one and these Battle Pairings are decided by dice roll between the Leaders of each Team. The winner of the dice roll chooses the first pairing, the opposing Leader can then choose the second pairing and subsequently third pairing is also then decided.

The Battles are all run according to the Steamroller 2011 rules for combat; the Team component happens before the Battle begins and plays no further part other than scoring at the end of the round. At 35 Points Battles will be timed and limited to 100 minutes. Players will have 10 minute turns, with a 5 minute allowed once during the battle. At the end of 100 minutes the TO will add an unknown random number of minutes decided by dice roll; before dice down is called and tiebreakers come into effect to find the winner.

Round draws will follow the standard Steamroller format with the exception that rankings will be determined by number of wins first, followed by Control points, and finally Strength of Schedule. Assassination victories will score 1 bonus control point in addition to any scored before the assassination was achieved. The top two ranking Teams from round 7 will play for first and second place during round 8.

As part of the Team Event each team will nominate a Leader. They
will be the person to liaise with the TO at the beginning of Rounds and who will play the Team Feat when required.

Now the Team Feat is a once a tournament ability for each team. The Feat allows a Team to select one of the following abilities to be applied to the current Match;

1: Choose all of the Battle Pairings for this Match.
2: Choose which type of scenario is played for this Match.
                        (Dual, Centre, Radial or Distant)
3: Choose the table on which each Battle is fought for this Match.

The Feat allows a Team to prepare for an anticipated difficult round or organise themselves to make the most of a perceived advantage. Leaders Feat in secret; other Teams may know a Feat has been used but not which one until announced. This allows Teams to counter Feat but it is still a gamble to choose which one to use. Some knowledge of the different scenarios available will help the Teams make decisions.

If both Teams in a Match use Feat 1 they cancel each other out and no effect is applied. If both Teams use Feat 2 then a dice roll will determine which type of scenario will be used. If both Teams use Feat 3 they cancel each other out and no effect is applied.

If Teams use different Feats in a Match both effects are applied. (eg Team A uses Feat 1 and Team B uses Feat 2, Team A will decide the Battle Pairings for the Match but Team 2 will decide which type of scenario is used.)

A Round for of Matches for the Tournament will follow, hopefully, these steps:
- TO announces which Teams will face off in this group of Matches, the current scenario for these Matches and the group of three tables each Match will be played on.
- Teams are given time (1 Minute) to decide if they will Feat this round.
- All Leaders tell the TO if they will Feat or not and which one they will use.
- TO announces who has Feated and if the scenario has been changed by Feat.
- Teams determine Battle Pairings for this Match either by dice roll, winner chooses first, or by Feat, deciding all the pairings.
- Teams choose their tables for each Battle Pairing either by a D3 dice roll, or by Feat, deciding the tables.
- Battle Pairings then have 10 minutes for deployment on their respective tables.
- TO begins the round and starts the timer.

This competition is about having fun so feel free to apply any Team rules to yourselves and your Team mates, eg In Team Pirate all players must always speak like a pirate, and in Team Red Bull you must drink a Red Bull before each battle.

There will also be a Team prize which will be judged by a secret referee for the Team which displays, all the best attributes conveyed on Page 5 of the Prime and Primal Rulebooks. Teams are encouraged to dress alike or theme themselves so that they can be identified. This event is about getting as many players of different levels of abilities to compete as possible and show how much fun can be had playing Warmachine and Hordes.

Thresher - A Warmachine and Hordes experience!

Hello boys and girls, well; mostly boys.

Just to give you an update of where we are at. Thresher is this weekend and all is looking well. We have 15 well endowed (model-wise) would-be champions registered so far, they are (in no particular order):

1. Chong Sin Lim – Legion of Everblight
2. Che Tibby – Retribution?
3. Chris Otton - Cryx
4. Chris Parkin – Legion or Mercs
5. Chris Reavely - Skorne
6. Craig Bishell - ?
7. Iain Johnston – who really knows – the man owns 400pts of 4-6 different factions
8. James Braid – Not too dissimlar to Iain. Suffers slightly less faction ADD. But only slightly...
9. Matthew Hassal - Circle
10. Mike Thorn – Mercs or Retribution of Scyrah
11. Ric Tolley – Circle
12. Richard Thomas - Cygnar
13. Sergio Gonzalez - Skorne

So, so far we have a really solid spread of factions, with only my beloved Trolls and Menoth going unrepresented. This should give you all a pleasant day of variety and conquest!
As we have an odd number of players, feel free to cajole, bully and harrass your friends, loved ones or total strangers into coming along.

• If you belong to Warlords, it costs $5.00 (for medals and stuff), and if you are a non-member it costs $10.00 (for prizes + table fee).

• I shall clear my diary - When is it? - Sunday, April 10th - 9am start

So; I was listening to a Podcast the other day... Episode 1

This is something that I’m sure many people I know, especially my wife, are sick of hearing me say. So it’s true, I listen to Podcasts all the time on a variety of subjects, but mainly Warmachine related war-gaming. I listen to it in the car because radio DJ’s drive me freaking crazy, I listen it when I’m walking anywhere, when I am painting, modelling or when I’m working on the house (renovating). Press Ganger Chris Otton otherwise known as ‘Pelarel’ on the forums suggested that I write a wee post on my thoughts on this subject. Perhaps in order to shut me up. Either way I shall indulge his whim. Over the next couple of weeks, I am going to cover and review the multitude of podcasts that I listen to.

First however, I should probably introduce myself, and 99% of you out there have no idea who I am. Well, I started playing Warmachine in Wellington in 2008 when I discovered someone else who owned a battle-group too. (My trolls had been sitting in my closet since 2007) Since then I have been organising tournaments and bludgeoning anyone who is within hearing into playing this amazing game. Whereas Chris is the PG, the semi-respectable coherent advocate of this game in Wellington, I am the enthusiastically frothing-at-the-mouth everyone-needs-to-play-this-game person in Wellington. In a nutshell, Chris and I organise the biggest Warmachine group in the Wellington region - as far as we know. We are always coming across pockets of hidden players, lurking and loitering in garages playing Warmachine without our knowledge. Hmmm... Ninja gamers.
So to the subject at hand, what do I listen to and what do I recommend. What is out there and what do they talk about – read on, and I will share my wisdom, enlightening you all.

Boosted Damage

Boosted Damage is probably my current favourite podcast. They are a group of gamers in central London and they are:
• John Snape the opinionated host who organises and runs the whole thing
• Jon Webb, the more light hearted Cryxian sidekick to John
• Conrad the long suffering accomplice and butt of Johns humour
• Chris who makes the understated clever commentary on the other three.
While John can be quite overbearing, they make a good combination of opinion and fact. They review things in a pretty disorganised haphazard manner but come across like a bunch of guys who like to play Warmachine and have enough experience to back up their opinions. This is part of their charm; they give each other grief, randomly go off topic and generally seem to have a good time. This means that their listeners do too. They seem to be a mix of serious gamers and more casual, and play a lot of tournaments. I particularly like their battle reports, as they discuss tactics they used, list building and how, generally everyone except Jon hates Cryx. Oh and John moans incessantly about how bad his Skorne is, despite seeming to do very well with them.
A good, fun, not-too-serious podcast. 5/5

Tabletop Hooligans

These guys have the best intentions in the world and have pretty much copied the Focus and Fury model (see below). They are trying really hard to be raw and uncompromising but unfortunately miss the boat completely because I don’t believe they have the skill or knowledge to back up the smack-talk. I have attempted to listen to them 4 times now, and have made it through two of their podcasts but can’t keep up the self abuse. They are not focused, can’t keep to any topic for longer than 2 minutes. They are opinionated, which is normally fine provided there are multiple points of view on the subject. Unfortunately they seem to all agree that Model A is rubbish without a balancing argument. This has the side effect (perhaps unfairly) of making them like an audio version of a forum troll ranting that Model A is useless without any supporting facts. They seem like nice guys, they seem like they are having fun. I wish them all the best, but if you are looking for a coherent, informative podcast this isn’t it. 1/5
