Sand Narrows week 1

Week one of the Wellington Sand narrows Campaign draws to a close with some players gathering more of the honours than others! :) Chris has stormed ahead to an early lead, it'll be interesting to see if he can keep it going for the next 3 weeks!

For those of you who didn't follow our last Shattered Grounds league season, here are the rules that we're playing to:

  1. no more than 4 games a week
  2. league venues are: Sean's house, Ric's house,  Wargames Supply, Wellington warlords and Hutt Club meetings
  3. only play the same opponent once a week
  4. only count one non-league player game per week
the league runs for the 4 weeks when the top 3 players will each be rewarded for their efforts. On the 22nd October there will be a 35 point steamroller open tourney at the Hutt Club in which the highest placed league player who didn't win the league coin last season gets the sand narrows league coin. First round draw for the tourney will be based on the players placing in the league e.g. Top player plays bottom player, 2nd against 2nd from last etc.

looking at the global league picture:

Mercs have jumped ahead with 3 regions from the off with Cryx and Cygnar following up with 2. Will the Mercs, or any faction for that matter, be able to stop Cygnar from grabbing the most territory this league?

Cheers

Chris

Monday Update

I bet you all thought I was dead...

Nearly.

I've been deathly sick for the last week, and still not 100% over it, but harden up.

Luke Sent me some sweet pics to bridge the gap with so here is his Annoying Troll-O,

And her classic Rock Wall, now with 100% real rock,

And Mike S chips in with a sweet pic of his amassing Cryxian Horde. If only he'd pick up a real faction,

Until next time,

Tuesday trample - week 3

hey all, we're at the halfway point on the Trample league and we had a few extra players join in; Sergio managed to tear himself away from work long enough to give Broadsides Bart a go whilst Matt H brought along a friend - Matt B with his Trollbloods. Bob's dice seemed to desert him this week as the probability bell curve seemed to form more of a down hill ski slope from double one all the way to 5 on 2D6, a very disappointed Kreoss was stretchered off the pitch at the end of two games, one against Matt H's Farrow and the other against Matt B's Trolls :o( On the other table Nic and Sergio duked it out to be King of the Forest but Bart just couldn't quite get at Kreoss in time to stop Sergio winning on Scenario.

that lunch time of fisticuffs leaves the league board looking like this:

Still three weeks to go and plenty to play for.

Cheers

Shattered Grounds - Sand Narrows

The fourth season of Privateer Press' Shattered grounds League - Sand Narrows kicks off today! A Satyxis Admiral has landed in Cygnar's Sand Narrows and given Skaldi Bonehammer a good hiding. Add in a Circle strike force and you have the makings of an interesting backdrop for the final season of this year's league.

yet again, we have a great showing of players joining in this month:

Sean L
Tom L
Alex M
Mike S
Matt H
Scott P
Craig B
Thomas C
Jimmy B
Ric T
ChrisP

We'll be using the same rules as the previous league season so only 4 games a week, no playing the same person twice in a week and the final placing will be decided at a tourney at the Hutt Club on the 22nd October.

GAME ON!

Tuesday Trample

Ok, so a few of us have been playing pickup games at our LGS, Wargames Supply , during Tuesday lunchtimes. This has been great for getting an extra game in a week but after several months of this it just needed a little something extra.. so what better than a 6 week league!!

Given that most of us have jobs and would at least like to keep receiving the moolah to buy our toys, the games have been kept down to 15 point Mangled Metal / Tooth and claw games. this should also help bring out some of those players who have bought one of the numerous battleboxes that were on the shelves up until recently.

rather than multiple games of caster kill, we've also nicked the current Shattered Grounds scenarios. We're only using the Shot Clock, Fight Club and King of the Hill - check out the organised play section of the PP website for more details. League points are scored as follows:

play a game - 1 point
play a new opponent - 1 point
win a game - 1 point

nice and simple but allowing for a little variety.

we're into week 2 of the league now and the score board is looking like this:
One of the regulars, Sergio, has yet to get a game in and we have high hopes of getting a few more players in so, if you have at least a Warmachine or Hordes battlebox and you can spend an hour between 12 and 1 on a Tuedsay afternoon playing then get on down to Wargames Supply and show us what you can do!

I'll be on hand to provide any coaching on the rules if you're new and help out with the scenarios etc..

cheers

All Wrathed up!

he, how many plays on words can you make with Wrath :)

anyway, Wellington's Wrath release event went like a dream.. if you dream of 10 ton steam powered robots beating the heck out of each other that is! 13 Brave souls made their way to the Wellington Warlords Wargames club - including 2 who drove 4 hours from Napier!! big props to Mike K and Josh! With 50 points games being the order of the day it was going to be interesting to see how many games actually got played.

The Wrath release was a little different from your usual WM/H event, rather than the usual tourney it was a free play event with a single scenario. for the scenario each player got to place a command trench and 10 standard trench templates then a 'normal' piece of terrain if they could fit it in. the mission was to get more of your own models in your opponents command trench than they had in it - or kill their caster, either would do.

points were scored for playing games, different opponents, using T4 theme lists, battlegroups only - yes, a 50 point battlegroup - as well as modelling your command trench and trying to get 5 games in!

After 6 and a half hours we called it time and the results looked like this:

and Mike Snook did manage to get 5 games in! 2 early assassinations really helped that :)

well, on to some really grainy pics, guess who forgot his camera and had to use his phone :(

some of the kookie layouts possible with trenches.

until next time

A Cygnar army is ......Re-Animated?

Mostly just a cheap shot at Chris P's regular(ish) blog postings but also a chance to show everyone what happens when you combine the Faction with the most broken rules with the one with the coolest colour scheme- Kaboom! CygnarCryx! No great standard of painting here but its got me very excited about reworking my army in its new look, and sending the shiny Blue & Gold Nightmare legions out to attempt some world domination.
Fingers crossed, I'll be showing up to Rallypoint or some such with an actual coherently painted army for once!

Post Wrath ramble

Soooo, played the Wrath event, hosted by Wellington Warlords and the ever gracious PG Chris O.  A day of fun and silliness with a really crazy scenario.

Each player has 11 trenches on their side of the table + a decent sized piece of terrain.  The main thing that I didn't realise until the set-up of game one, is that your terrain piece must be 10 inched away from any trenches - it must be placed after all trenches are laid down.  This was ill-planned by PP in my view.  It got a little silly as forests and buildings ended up at the back corner of your own deployment zone as it was the only place they would fit.  It made them a little pointless.

There were some really sweet trenches made up and brought along.  I am a little 'over' building terrain right now, so failed miserably in this department.

What was fricken awesome was the two blokes who made it all the way down from Napier to join in the festivities - love it!  Golf claps all around for that effort.  Couldn't find a nicer pair of guys either.  I understand that Napier has got a fledgling community coming together now, and I'm really looking forward to seeing them again at Rallypoint.

I played Cryx and managed to squeeze 4 games into the day.  I just wanted to share a couple of the fun moments that happened during my day.

Game 1, turn 1 vs Chong the Destroyer.  He was playing Tier 4 Harbinger, he gets first turn, runs his army up, walks Harbinger and feats.  For those who are not familiar with her horrific feat - it means if you advance towards her while within her control range you take a POW14.  Now her control area is 20"  Which means that if I move more than 2" off my deployment zone line I start dying.  Given that I wasn't confident of not screwing up, and didn't want to throw my army away over a miss-measure, I didn't move a model and just gave him the turn immediately.  Shortest turn ever - around 2 seconds long.
Turns out eDenny's feat sucks too (who knew?), and Harbinger got Nightmared.

Game 2 vs Mr Snook.  pDenny vs pDenny.  I got first turn and got the alpha-strike with some Venoms all over Mikes pDenny.  Left her on one wound.  It was somehow poetic that she would die to corrosion the following maintenance phase.

Game 3 was a bit of a blur.  Sorry Matt :(

Game 4 vs Chris-of-the-Retribution.  I have never played Ravyn.  When she goes to town, she goes fricken mental!  Over the course of a couple of turns, she single handedly killed several units.  She is just insane!
Poor Chris had yet to see Bile Thralls before.  I explained what they did and emphasised their importance - however as they say "A purge is worth a thousand words".  Its one of those things that have to be experienced to really comprehend its significance - kind of like mainland Tasty cheese.  In a personal record, Terminus ended up on 22 soul tokens - ARM 40.  So he just stood there for a couple of turns, in the middle of the board looking menacing.

A great event, some great opponents and a really relaxed time.

I also understand there were demo's held that may bear fruit :)

Hmmm, gamer fruit.  Perhaps vegetables rather than fruit...but I digress.

Look forward to Rallypoint...

Monday Update

I bet you all thought I was dead...

Nearly.

Instead I was breaking an enjoying the sunshine even at work.

Got to keep the Nerd-Life balance now and then.

But apart from that I am spending most of my time renovating the Dojo to be hospitable for home games which unfortunately requires moving large amounts of built up shit from the previous tenants who obviously did not like the garage,

Thankfully after some elbow grease 2ft of vines and dirt is now goneburger, if only the interior was proving to be as easy.

I did play a game this weekend though, trekking out the sweet new motorway to the Diner,

In order to apply some beats and remember why I hate playing Hordes.

In "good bastard" fashion Greg and Luke, Auckland locals rescue me from a painting-less monday with some awesome minis painted for the Guardcon BBox tourney on the 1/2 October.

From Luke H we have a sweet Troll box and a Mauler,

And from Greg some blingin Gators,

Champion boys.

Still settling down on what I'll be playing for Rallypoint but you should all be thinking about it, 12/13th November in the Tron. Be there to help me ring in a milestone birthday and smash my hungover ass.

Also, it will be a sweet weekend.

Until next time,

Keep it Classy.
